Awami League lawmaker Abdus Shahid has been appointed chief whip of the ruling party, said the president's secretary on Tuesday.

"I will try my best to make parliament effective in line with the constitution and the rules of procedure and according to the instruction of the Leader of the House," Shahid, who was opposition chief whip
in the previous parliament, told bdnews24.com.

He also sought cooperation from all lawmakers to make parliament effective.

Shahid was elected MP on an Awami League ticket from Moulvibazar-4 in the Dec. 29 polls.

The president also appointed another six AL whips on Tuesday, secretary Sirajul Islam told bdnews24.com.
