The city people have started journey to their respective destinations to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.
Like in the past a section of city dwellers with their family members began early journey to avoid unwanted embarrassing situation. On Friday city's railway stations, bus and launch terminals witnessed heavy rush of people who appeared to be desperate to go home to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr with their family members.
A large number of people were seen streaming to Kamalapur railway station, Sadarghat launch terminal and Gabtoli, Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gulistan bus terminals on Friday to avail trains, launches and buses for their home bound journey before Eid-ul-Fitr, to be celebrated on Wednesday
or Thursday. Heavy contingent of law enforcers comprising Police, APBN and RAB have been deployed in all bus and launch terminals to maintain law and order and facilitate easy movement of people.

Passengers of long-haul routes said they paid Tk 100 to Tk 150 in extra fares, but the transport operators defended themselves by saying they were not charging more than the government rate.
Streams of passengers were leaving Dhaka from Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli bus terminals where buses were parked scattered creating a drag on normal movement, despite activities of mobile courts at all terminals. Allegations of silent extortion of money in the name of tips were also rife at bus terminals.
The chaos and confusion at bus and launch terminals will grow when the three-day long Eid holiday begins on Tuesday, transport operators said. The buses of long stations were charging more fare, alleged passengers.
