Awami League (AL) Acting President Zillur Rahman on Friday said if the AL is voted to power, it would legalise all activities and reforms conducted by this caretaker government during it tenure.
"If we can form government through elections, we will legalise the 'lawful tasks' carried out by this government in last 18 months," said the veteran AL leader after meeting with the leaders and activists of Bangabandhu Sanskiritik Jote, a front organization of AL, at his Gulshan residence in the capital yesterday morning.
Replying to a query about the Chief Adviser's address to an audience of Bangladeshi expatriates in the US, he expressed his grave concern over the concept of the caretaker government in politics saying that "I don't know about the future of the system but it might be changed in the long run. Time will say in this regards."
He said if the date of Upazila
polls are not shifted, the grassroots level leaders and activists will face severe difficulties in conducting election campaigns.
He said, "All party men should remain united for taking part in the elections. They will have to work together to end the intra-party conflict for the greater interest of the party."
Demanding unconditional permanent release of party president Sheikh Hasina, Zillur said, "so far, in her (Hasina) life, she did not do anything wrong, even, she was not involved in any activity which went against the interest of common people."
He also urged the government to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a free, fair and impartial parliamentary election in time.
"The sufferings of the common people have intensified as the government completely failed to curb the price hike of daily essentials in last few months. The government should take emergency steps to bring the prices of daily commodities to a tolerable level," he said.
