Tk 30,500 crore ADP approved by NEC

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Tuesday
approved the annual development programme (ADP) for fiscal 2009-10
involving Taka 30,500 crore.
Chairperson of the NEC and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting at the NEC Building here.
The next ADP will have allocation of Taka 17,655 crore in local currency comprising 58 percent of total development outlay.
The remaining allocation of Taka 12,800 crore will come as project aid which constitutes 42 percent of the total ADP budget, said an official handout.
The next ADP will be bigger by Taka 4,900 crore than the original current ADP and by Taka 7,500 crore than the revised ADP of this year.
Compared to current revised ADP, the next ADP will be 33 percent bigger. It will have 886 projects and out of it, 851 projects have continued from this year's ADP (2008-09) while the number of newly adopted projects stand at 35.
The ADP for 2009-10 has put priority to agriculture, rural development, local government institutions and water resource development having a combined allocation of Taka 6,221crore.

It has given allocation of Taka 4,152 crore to education and religion. Infrastructure, water distribution and housing received Taka 3618 crore and health, nutrition, population and family welfare Taka 3,234 crore.
The meeting reviewed the performance of revised ADP of 2007- 08 and said its implementation stood at 82 percent. The implementation of the current ADP (original) from July to March period stood at 41 percent. It was 36 percent for the same period last year. The NEC meeting decided to frame a perspective development plan for 2010 to 2021 and as part of it the government would frame two five-year plans, one covering the period from 2010 to 2015 and the next one from 2015-16 to 2020. It would be framed taking into account the outlines of Awami League manifesto to fulfil its election pledges. Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Planning Minister A K Khondker, Bir Uttam, members of the cabinet, advisers to Prime Ministers and state ministers attended the meeting.
Cabinet secretary, principal secretary to prime minister, governor of Bangladesh Bank, members of the planning commission, secretaries of other ministries and senior government officials were present.
