The trial of the Tk 3 crore extortion case against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will proceed in the trial court as the High Court today vacated its earlier order staying the case proceedings.

Businessman Azam J Chowdhury filed the case on June 13, 2007. The HC bench of Justice ABM Khairul Haque and Justice Momtaj Uddin Ahmed passed the order upon a prayer moved by Barrister Rafique-ul Huq on behalf of Hasina.

The prayer was moved so that the case can be withdrawn.Azam J Chowdhury had earlier filed an application with the government authorities to withdraw the case against Hasina and others.

The HC in September 2008 stayed the case proceedings upon a petition by Hasina.
