Baishakhi shopping gains momentum Prices of hilsha-sky rocketing

Residents of Dhaka yesterday have been passing a busy
day to carry out their last minute shopping to celebrate Pahela
Baishakh, first day of Bangla New Year in a festive mood.
To draw attention of consumers, different fashion houses are decorating their shops with colourful traditional Baishakhi wears including Panjabi, Fatua and sharees.
Anjan's, a fashion house at Basundhara City, decorated its house with traditional Baishakhi dresses including Panjabi and Fatua both for male and female at prices between Tk 350 and Tk 1150, Children Fatua Tk 200 to Tk 425 and three-piece and sharee between Tk 750 and Tk 4,250.
Morad, manager of the Anjan's, said that the selling of the Baishakhi items are not satisfactory this year.
Mahi, a saleswoman of Smart-tax, another fashion house of the same market, is selling three-piece, fatua for male and female, told The New Nation that her house presented new and colourful items only for Baishakh at concession price. "Due to the reason, our sale is satisfactory till today," she said.

decorating their house with children, men and women fatua, panjabi and
sharee price range between Tk 220 and 2,850.
Stylist men and women rushed at Aziz Super market, Gausia and New Market areas fashion houses and markets to buy their fatua, Panjabi and sharees.
Rafiqul Islam, owner of I-Craft at Aziz Super market, has selective customers mainly Dhaka University students are his consumers as he sells Panjabi between Tk 750 and Tk 1,100, fatua Tk 250 to Tk 450.
Rajib, a DU student said "I bought a Fatua from I-Craft to make my Baishakhi celebration more colourful."
Besides, a salesman of Sharee Ghar at Gawsia Market said that they had sold Baishakhi sharee from Tk 250 to Tk 1,500.
However, the consumers at Karwan Bazar yesterday bought per kilogram of hilsa fish between Tk 1,200 and 1,400.
"It is two times higher from normal time. Without hilsa,it is meaningless to celebrate Baishakhi," Kabir, a resident of Green Road area said.
